April 19, 2017

The ski season is winding down and the Pisten Bully had its last outing for this season last weekend. It will soon be up on blocks for maintenance work.

Sun, warm daytime temperatures and cool nights make for very changeable snow conditions. The trails are still very skiable, particularly if you pick the right time of day. The Ginzu groomer is limited in what it can do, particularly if the snow is hard packed or icy, so it is difficult to predict when grooming will be possible. We hope to be able to touch up the trails with the Ginzu when the opportunity presents and will post an update if/when this happens.

There's a mild long weekend ahead that should make for good skiing and snowshoeing! The chalet will be open its regular hours on Friday, Saturday and Sunday - come on down for an outing. This will be the final weekend of the season with the Chalet open, so take advantage! Members are welcome and encouraged to access the trails from the lower parking lot for as long as they like!

Check out the photo from Aspen Lookout taken on April 12th. Great view of Gosling Lake on the left and looking towards the Birch Brook Chalet on the right. Even though spring is here there is still lots of time for snowshoe outings! With warmer weather there's never been a better time to head out to the outer trails and cash in on some beautiful views.

A wonderful photo by John Graham of the Birch Brook Track Attack participant during their weekend at Colin's Hut! Track Attack Coaches, Allan and Charlene, accompanied the youth on this challenging ski and overnight trip. Quite an accomplishment, thanks to all who helped out!

A great season of the Friday Group Snowshoes has come to an end for this year. In total, 12 group snowshoe outings went ahead on Friday afternoons!

Thanks to everyone who helped out! Lets keep setting tracks out there, there's plenty of snow left :)

Just a quick note that for safety reasons the Birch Brook Trails will be closed to non loppet participants during the Loppet on March 25th (start time of 9AM). If you want to ski or snowshoe Saturday, your best bet is to register for this great community event! We'll re-open trails and rentals once all participants have finished, which we estimate will be around 2 PM. Please call the chalet for an update if required.

To partake, register before midnight tomorrow:

If at all possible please consider carpooling to the event on Saturday, there will be lots of people and we have limited space to work with.

Thanks for your understanding, see you on the trails!

The PB was in to Colin's Hut yesterday. The lower and intermediate trails will be done today and, if time permits, a track will be set to McLean Lake.
