Summit snowshoe hike this Saturday
Posted 19 April 2012, 11:24 pm ADT
Hi everyone,
After the spectacular success of last week's snowshoe walk, Betty Anne has come up with another new lookout for us to aim for. The summit affords another great view of our trails from a different perspective. Once again t uses the 'back door' approach, increasing height in stages, rather than climbing the steep, front part of the hill.
The North West River Katimavik Group has offered to look after the rental room. If someone wants to leave a camera at the chalet, we could ask one of them to take a photo of us on the top of the hill. It would be a great conversation piece! The top is wide open, just like the place we had our picnic last week.
Please invite anyone you know who would be interested in coming along. The more the merrier. A poster is attached.
The ski trails are very soft at the moment, but that might change if we get the -9 currently forecast for Friday night. If you go to Birch Brook to ski I'd say you should be prepared to snowshoe instead if the ski trails become too soft. But then the snow crust might be perfect on Saturday, we'll have to wait and see.
Birch Brook will probably close at the end of the month, which means the chalet service and trail grooming won't be available, but if the opportunity arises, and the conditions look good, I'm sure our members will still be visiting the Birch Brook trails.
I hope to see a great crowd on Saturday.
Cheers,
Graham
