Classic ski event this Sunday at 2 p.m.
Posted 17 January 2012, 10:00 pm AST
I hope as many skiers as possible will join in a ski around the Games Trail this Sunday, Jan. 22, at 2 p.m. This will be the first part of a comparison of an early season ski and one we will do later on, and we can all see how much we have improved.
We'll have the timing clock in place, and although it doesn't matter how long anyone takes, everyone can compare their times and the level of effort it takes when they try the same course in April. It will help if all the participants can register for $5 before the day. That way it's a lot easier to get the event started and the timing to work properly.
If you can't get to Birch Brook to register beforehand, call the new Birch Brook phone, 899-0696, during open hours to get your name on the list.
Obviously, some will race around at top speed while others take a more leisurely pace, but whatever speed you choose we'll have a prize draw for all the participants. There will be a pair of ski gloves to be won by one male and one female skier.
This is a classic ski event, diagonal stride, no skate skiing. Everyone can do it. Also, there will be a shorter course for juniors. There's no strict age limit for juniors. If a young skier wants to take a shorter course, a turn-off will be marked at the Dutch Shed, which will take the skiers back onto the Rabbit Run, and back to the finish from there.
