Report from the President
Posted 14 January 2012, 9:20 am AST
Good luck to all the Jackrabbit skiers and those in the Track Attack program. This might not be the easiest time of year for skiing, but all the efforts made now, when the snow is soft and the weather cold, pays off later on when you have learned the skills and have the fitness to enjoy long days of skiing.

What a fantastic potluck supper we had last weekend. Eighty people at a potluck was amazing, and as always the food was delicious. The cold weather didn't seem to matter as skiers and snowshoers all took to the trails for a wonderful evening under a huge moon. A night to remember!

Next weekend I hope as many skiers as possible will join in a ski around the Games Trail. This will be the first part of a comparison of an early season ski and one we will do later on, and we can all see how much we have improved. We'll have the timing clock in place, and although it doesn't matter how long anyone takes, everyone can compare their times and the level of effort it takes when they try the same course in April.

It will help if all the participants can submit the registration fee of $5 before the day. That way it's a lot easier to get the event started and the timing to work properly. If you can't get to Birch Brook to register beforehand, call the new Birch Brook phone, 899-0696, during open hours to get your name on the list.

Obviously, some will race around at top speed while others take a more leisurely pace, but whatever speed you choose we'll have a prize draw for all the participants. There will be a pair of ski gloves to be won by one male and one female skier.

Ski the Games Trail: Sunday, January 22, 2012 at 2:00 p.m.

See you on the trails.

Cheers,
Graham
