Come to the full moon potluck this Saturday
Posted 07 December 2011, 1:06 am AST
A full moon, potluck supper social is planned for the Birch Brook Nordic Ski Club on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011. I thought a good start time for supper would be 5:00 p.m. It's dark by then and I know there will be some hungry skiers around. Afterwards we could go for a snowshoe or ski. Anyone wanting to get their membership or register their youngsters for the Jackrabbit or Track Attack programs can do so before that. We'll also have a 50/50 draw that evening, so bring along a couple of bucks.
If you want to introduce a friend to our moonlit walks, Saturday might be a good time to do that. They might become regulars just to enjoy the moonlit trails. We have the snowshoes for rent at only $5 and the trail pass costs the same. I'm hoping we get lots of snow before Saturday, and that Saturday evening is clear.
On Boxing Day we'll be having our regular Open House. This is when we try and get as many newcomers as possible to try skiing or snowshoeing. Friendly faces and encouragement is what will bring them back, so hopefully we'll have a good turnout of our regulars to welcome those visiting Birch Brook for the first time.
There are a few new faces around the trails. We're lucky that the resident doctors have found Birch Brook, and they've promised to visit as often as possible during their time here. Some have got a couple of weeks in town while others are here for eight months. Welcome to them all.
Another doctor that you might recognize at Birch Brook is Peter Montesano. Peter, his wife Anne and their young baby Iris were regulars at the old log cabin. Peter is in town for a couple of weeks, but Anne and Iris had to stay home in Alaska. I'm sure many of you will recognize him when you see him. Iris is now six. Time flies.
If anyone wants to bring some Christmas music along, or a decoration for the tree, it will make the season more festive.
Cheers,
Graham
